Sespite’tmnej means “Let’s take care”

Sespite’tmnej is about consciously taking responsibility for our communities, for Unama’ki and for Mother Earth.

For thousands of years, Mi’kmaq lived sustainably. We used resources in a respectful way. Lately, however, many of us have lost that relationship with the land, and waste has become a major concern. It is filling our landfills, our forests, and our waters. It looks terrible on Unama’ki’s landscapes and it’s harmful to our ecosystems.

We are aware of the problem, so let’s re-kindle our relationship with the land and manage our waste properly. Let’s take care.

The five Unama’ki communities have provided a guide for properly sorting household waste.
